What I Learned From Tai Lopez

Skyrocketed from obscurity to authority in the wake of his now-viral ad “Here in my garage”, Tai Lopez is arguably one of the best known and most controversial educators and marketers on the planet.

Tai Lopez, motivational speaker and entrepreneur, is incredibly interesting.

Not only because he is a Certified Financial Planner, an investor, partner, or advisor to over 20 multi-million dollar businesses.

But also an author and podcast host sharing tips on how to achieve health, wealth, love, and happiness with over 1.4 million people in 40 countries.

Tai Lopez has one of the top 20 most popular TEDx talks ever.

ImportantAnd his YouTube videos are used by some college professors to teach marketing. He was voted the Number 1 Social Media Influencer by Entrepreneur Magazine in 2017.

Whether you love him, hate him, or haven’t heard of him, Tai Lopez’s insights into the “good life” proffer invaluable wisdom and directives for entrepreneurship.

Between his lavish lifestyle, impressive business acumen, and remarkable Rolodex, Tai Lopez has become a virtual mentor to millions around the world by disseminating wisdom from his mentors to the masses.

Here are some lessons I have learned from him. I hope these help you on your journey towards success!

Be Authentically Yourself

Tai Lopez has a personal brand recognized by millions around the world. But ask him how he’s built that for himself, and he won’t say self-promotion.

Be authentic. Don’t change who you are.

Tai Lopez built a personal brand around who he already is, instead of who he wanted people to see him as. It has to be authentic, otherwise no one is going to get on board.

Whenever you are on social media be yourself.

ImportantBe genuine and try to produce content that people will like to consume. If the content is just about you then no one will care but if the content is genuinely useful and it is authentic you can get viewer attention.

One of the best selling points is to be yourself, show the customers who you really are, what are your hobbies, habits, and interests.

When people see that you are just a human being, just like them, they will feel more open to suggestions and willing to try to understand you from time to time, so they would be much eager to accept certain changes in your product line.

If you think of yourself to be a good person, then you shouldn’t have any doubts about how you should act in front of your customers.

Just let them see you for who you really are and they will recognize the best and the worst in you and eventually relate themselves to you, thus, allowing you to create very stable customer-relations.

Tai Lopez recommends becoming a “social chameleon” and shifting to a communication style suited to the person you’re talking to.

He has developed his own personality system to categorize four different people — like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. He calls it the P.A.S.E. system which stands for Practical, Action, Social & Emotional.

Binge Reading

Our life is the combined result of our knowledge and our ignorance. We achieve what we understand deeply but lose that what we’re ignorant about.

A lot of times, we spend time and money on things that depreciate or add no value to our lives.

Start looking at your time and money as seeds you can plant to generate and grow a better future. By investing in yourself, you increase your worth as an employee and as a person, helping you build a better profile.

One way Tai Lopez invests in himself is by reading one book per day!

ImportantBy reading the right books, you can learn from people who have already mastered something you want to master.

With books, for just a few dollars, you have a network of mentors at your fingertips.

WarningYou need to start looking at books as mentors, not entertainment or educational resources. Treat them just like you would an in-person mentor whom you’d do anything to meet.

Tai Lopez recommends you find 150 books that you plan on reading over and over in your life.

See books like friends. You must engage with them over and over again. Like friends, you keep coming back to the same ones in your life.

You don’t always need to read the entire book to extract its value. Some books only have one or two main ideas that are valuable.

Depending on a book’s quality, you will read it all or “hack” your way through it quicker when there’s not much helpful content.

Think of yourself as a gold miner, when you are digging into a book.

ImportantYou’re looking for that one valuable nugget to move your life or business forward. Note the key lessons in the back of the book, which you can revisit.

By constantly reading books, we get new information, we learn something new.

Even if you don’t go to college, you could learn a lot by reading on the side, when you have free time. You can learn basically anything from books nowadays.

That is not something which should be taken lightly. That’s how Tai Lopez became so successful.

Risk Takers Win

Tai Lopez had the hunger to be an entrepreneur ever since he was a young kid. His first step into the world of entrepreneurship was at six years old, when he began selling tomatoes for his mother.

If you want to succeed as an entrepreneur in the modern age you must take calculated risks.

This is especially true if you are using digital marketing and social media. You must try and experiment with things people are not trying. You must give an experience people don’t get with other brands.

One thing that every entrepreneur has to learn is how to manage risk related to business.

WarningThere are almost seven billion people on this Earth and a lot of both large and small companies. And everyone, starting from individual people to big companies will face some type of risk.

So, we could say that our lives are definitely not riskless.

That fact doesn’t need to mean that we should hide in our homes and do nothing for the entirety of our lives. That means we need to learn to manage that risk and cope with it, in order to fulfill our lives with what we want to do.

Potential benefits could overcome our sense of fear and then we would be awarded for taking that risk and not backing down from the fight.

ImportantThis is particularly important in marketing, because there are a lot of competitors around there, so you need to be able to experiment with a lot of new stuff no one else has tried, so you could stand out of the crowd and make yourself visible to other people.

Successful entrepreneurs know this and they are not afraid to be risk takers.

That’s why you shouldn’t hesitate to try out some ideas you might have because some of them could turn out to be very fruitful and useful for the advancement of your entire business.

All sustainable success comes from “the grind”. Process over events. Tai calls this “the sculpture approach”.

Choose the general direction you want to go and adjust accordingly. Look at your life as one big piece of marble and everyday you grind away one small piece of imperfection.

We – as a society – have become too soft. Too YOLO. Tai Lopez recommends everyone to take on a more stoic view on life.

WarningWe suffer from a lack of role models, an estrogen inducing diet, media propaganda, too much comfort and more stuff that is making us a shade of our former selves.

It’s not about what you do that really matters but about the the mental resilience that discomfort builds.

Spartans used to go through the agoge learning stealth, cunning, fighting skills and mental resilience from the ages of 7 till 21.

Good Is Not Enough

What many people don’t know about Tai Lopez’s viral YouTube ad, “Here In My Garage,” is that it was recorded multiple times, and different versions were tested.

ImportantAn essential part of entrepreneurship is to always be doing and improving. You have to try things in order to know if they’re going to work or not.

The person with static skills will never thrive in an dynamic environment. Embrace change as an habit.

Look for changes & trends and use those to your advantage. Make choices on a long-term basis. This is based on the theory of evolution which states that the person who’s best-adapted to his environment is the one that’ll survive.

When you implement certain changes, make sure to test how they react with already implemented things.

If new changes turn out to be a success, then you will find yourself in a very good position, especially if no one else has thought of the same and changed their products as well.

What you should do is constantly looking for new ways to improve your business, as well as your products in general.
Be aware of your current actions and surroundings.

Check up on your habits and see if the way you’re living is an ESS (Evolutionary Stable Strategy) meaning you quantify your decisions based on long-term thinking.

The secret to success is simple…experiment more.

WarningMost people are quick to assume that their way of doing things is the only way to do things. They latch on to one strategy or tactic and, even after finding it to be inefficient for achieving their goals, continue with it no matter what.

To achieve the success you desire, you must experiment more.

The mandates of one guru may work for one person but not another and the only way to create a lasting strategy for success is to constantly iterate, challenge your assumptions, ask better questions, and run more experiments.

Test out different habits, strategies, and ideas quickly until you find what works.

The Good Life

Part of becoming successful is about figuring out the lifestyle you want to live and then working backwards. You have to reverse engineer where it is you want to end up, and what you can do in order to get there.

To deserve the life you want, you’ll have to do the actions that are necessary.

WarningTai Lopez says most people are delusional. We somehow think we’re entitled to “the good life” without putting in the effort required to actually get there.

Take on an attitude of full responsibility for your own life.

ImportantIf you want a higher life quality there will be things you’ll have to do and things you’ll have to give up. This way you’ll increase your chances of attaining the life you desire.

Tai Lopez states that if you have a job where you need vacation from, you should never go back to it.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your adult life therefore it’s imperative you put yourself in a position you can excel at by knowing your strengths.

Look for work you can sustain for a long time. A life you need vacation from is a pathetic life.

WarningDon’t look for passion but build on strength. We’re often told to “follow our passion” but that’s rarely adequate. Position yourself in areas you like and are good at and after a while you’ll learn to love it.

Find work you have an natural advantage in and use that to your own benefit. It’ll become your passion after a while.
If you want to live your ideal lifestyle, you need to ask yourself what you can do that will manifest that lifestyle in the first place.

From there get excited about that lifestyle and mentality and that passion will overflow into your work and success.

Tai Lopez recommend doing “the funeral test” to see what you really want out of life.

ImportantEnvision your funeral and ask yourself what you would want other to say about you and your life. What will you have left behind? How will others remember you?

Final Thoughts

What I Learned From Tai Lopez Final Thoughts
Divide up your life. Spend 33% of your time around people lower than you, you can mentor them. Spend 33% of your time with people that are on your level – your friends and peers. Spend 33% of your time with people that are 10/20 years ahead of you. Those are your mentors.Tai Lopez

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you can’t miss Tai Lopez on social media. He’s leveraged social platforms to launch dozens of new businesses and scale existing ones.

Tai Lopez is the ideal modern day role model for anyone starting on the entrepreneurial journey.

ImportantPeople who are hard-working and who tend to work on themselves and their businesses are the people who deserve to be rich.

WarningLazy and people who slack are those who don’t have enough ambition and thus, they do not deserve to be successful entrepreneurs.

Most people drift aimlessly because they’ve never really analyzed the results they’re looking for.

Look at your role models and the life they’ve build for themselves and ask whether you want to be in their shoes.

Never become adamant in any set of beliefs before heavy experimentation.

Be a constant experimenter on yourself and track progress on the things you’re doing.

If you don’t have it In your head, you’ll have it in your heel!
